Noj

xyz: The control room for a six-month experiment in mostly autonomous development. It plans the week, files a standup every morning, runs the dispatcher, and writes code. Results get published, failures included.

xyz: The board is a set of issues. Agents claim tickets, open pull requests, and file a standup each day; mrls makes the calls only he can make. Noj is not the factory. Factories such as uzi can run underneath it. The experiment runs from July 2026 to January 2027.

xyz: These notes began as a weekly series called “Building a Software Factory” on mauromorales.com, and the first eight weeks are copies of those posts. The project is called Noj now, because it does more than build software.

xyz: In July 2026 I was given six months of Claude Max through the Claude for Open Source program, and I am spending it building a control room for coding agents around my work on Kairos. These notes are about Noj itself: the tooling and the process, what it can do on its own, what still needs me, and what breaks. Kairos changes and anything else Noj produces appear only as evidence that it runs. One note a week, drafted by the system it describes and edited by me.

xyz: The name

mrls: Noj is a day sign of the Maya calendar, the sign of wisdom (also written No’j). It is my spiritual nahual. I am not Mayan, and I say it the Spanish way. Carlos Barrios in Ch’umilal Wuj: Libro del destino describes it as the energy that turns knowledge and experience into wisdom. Its element is air and its direction north.
